The translation from Dutch is made by Manette Sch\u00f6nfeld of<\/span>\u00a0PhiMa Taalwerk. The softcover edition and the e-Book are published at the same<\/span>\u00a0time.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Maze of Mourning, Frieda Voorhorst describes the process of grieving after the death<\/span>\u00a0of her father. Her style is reflexive: in a detached way, she looks at her own emotions,<\/span>\u00a0thoughts and actions in retrospect.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this way, the book is contemplative without being weighty: it focusses on the dayly<\/span>\u00a0events in this period. The strong ties in the Voorhorst family between Frieda, her\u00a0<\/span>mother, her two sisters and her two brothers provide for a safe and harmonious<\/span>background.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the book concerns a sorrowful period, the writing stays light-footed.<\/span>Sometimes the book is even outright humoristic.<\/span><\/p>\n

For readers who have to live through a similar period, the book makes consolatory<\/span>reading, not in the least becourse the fases of the mourning process are so thoughtfully<\/span>described. In this way the book can also function as a lived example of existing theories<\/span>\u00a0on mourning and grieving.<\/span><\/p>\n
